Our advanced project management training is essentially Project Management 201. It builds upon the foundations and principles of project management introduced in our basic project management training class. Our advanced class focuses on doing project management. That is, how to actually plan and carry out a project, how to prepare a project management plan and other project documents. The advanced class is very much of a hands-on class. Advanced project management is perfect for any new project managers or management that have taken our basic project management class. It is also well-suited for experienced project managers, even PMP-certified project managers, who know the fundamentals and are now ready to actually learn how to apply them.
Note: This is not a PMP/CAPM certification exam prep class and will not prepare you to take those exams.

- Fundamental Concepts. Basic project management terminology.
- Overview of a Project. Big picture of a project, including what leads to a project, initiating steps, planning, executing, and closing projects, plus practices to monitor and control a project. The project overview will highlight relevant standards, guidelines, and best practices applicable overall and to each step within the project life cycle.
- Initiating a Project. Interactive discussion and exercise on receiving, accepting, and kicking off a project, including the steps to identify stakeholders and plan planning).
- Planning a Project. Interactive discussion and exercise on planning a project from collecting requirements and setting scope, to create a robust project management plan, then creating a project and solution work breakdown structure (WBS), and building a schedule from it (including resources, duration, and cost estimates). Planning will also address quality, risk, procurement, and other relevant planning topics.
- Executing a Project. Interactive discussion and exercise on following the plan to execute the project and create the product, service, or result required of the project.
- Monitoring and Controlling a Project. Interactive discussion and exercise on a wide range of topics from configuration management, change control, quality control and quality assurance, to reporting topics, such as earned value. Monitoring and controlling will also address continuous and process improvement.
- Closing Projects. Interactive discussion on steps to fully close and hand off a project so that follow-on projects can reuse or pickup from where the project left off, so that other projects might learn from the project, etc.
- Next Steps. Brainstorming on the practice of project management and how to implement it in individual projects as well as within groups and organizations. Emphasis will be on identifying and adopting best practices, capturing metrics, and employing change management techniques to improve the practice of project management in any organization, under any time or budget constraint.
Note: While this outline closely mirrors our basic project management class, it is very different content, delivery, and interaction. This is a hands-on, how-to training class.
